John van ’t Schip named Armenia's head coach

John van ’t Schip is taking on the challenge of leading the Armenian national team in their quest to qualify for the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The 61-year-old Dutchman has signed a one-year contract, with an option to extend for an additional year. He will be assisted by former teammate and ex-international Aron Winter.

Van ’t Schip has had an impressive career. As a player, he represented Ajax and Genoa and was part of the Dutch national team that won the European Championship in 1988. With Ajax, he secured four league titles, three KNVB Cups, as well as the European Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Cup. His coaching career has also been notable. He worked alongside Marco van Basten with the Dutch national team, served as head coach of Greece, and managed clubs such as Melbourne City, FC Twente, and PEC Zwolle. Additionally, he had two stints as interim coach at Ajax.

Starting March 1, 2025, Van ’t Schip will take charge of the Armenian national team. In addition to World Cup qualification, securing promotion to League B of the Nations League is another key objective.

Capital Sports played an important role in the process, assisting the Armenian Football Federation in its search for a suitable coach. The sports marketing agency facilitated the initial contacts and guided the negotiations. Thanks to Van ’t Schip’s strong track record, an agreement was quickly reached.
